老虎 年 or Year of the Tiger, though its late I still wanted to post this piece in honor of the Tiger year.
Tiger also known as lǎohǔ (老虎) was one of twelve animals chosen by Buddha to become immortalized in the constellations for his loyalty when Buddha summoned all of the animals of the Earth. In one version of the story there is a race between the twelve animals, in another I believe Buddha was getting ready to obtain enlightenment and summoned all the animals forth but only twelve came. Tiger is number 3 in Chinese Zodiac which is fitting to Tiger's predominately Yang personality. The Hanzi on the left translates to traits of the tiger; sensitive, impulsive, aggressive, and rebellious.
This was originally a t-shirt commission but it was not used.
